| Summary of Issue | That training be developed for the CVSA membership on CPAP machines for post-accident identification and preservation as evidence be developed. |
| Justification or Need | With the increase in drivers being under treatment for sleep apnea the number of CPAP machines in CMVs has increased. In the event of a major crash a CPAP machine in debris should be treated as evidence and preserved if all possible. This topic has been added to NTSB "Go Team" training. |
| Request for Action | If there is interest from CVSA membership we would be interested in working to develop either an online program or in-person presentations to member agencies on sleep apnea in general and specifically on CPAP machines as they relate to post accident investigations. In looking at the CVSA membership and sponsor information I noticed Sleep Safe Drivers is already active with CVSA. Sleep Safe is a competing vendor for sleep apnea testing and treatment in transportation. If there are staff from Sleep Safe registered or active already with CVSA we would be more than willing to work jointly with them. While competitors, this is an industry wide need we are willing to invest time and effort in. |
