| Summary of Issue | In October 2012 a Calgary woman was killed in British Columbia when a rock apparently became dislodged from between the dual tires of the trailer and crashed through the windscreen of the vehicle she was a passenger in. |
| Justification or Need | Although according to police this issue is rare, the seriousness cannot be denied. People can be, and indeed can be confirmed to be seriously injured or killed by debris coming off passing vehicles on any highway in the country. |
| Request for Action | As this is a simple check on roadside by CVSA inspectors and is not addressed in the current Out of Service Criteria it is suggested that this item be included in the Out of Service Criteria, perhaps under a new item under \"tires 11.c Lodged items/debris between tires of dual tire set.\": \"any debris caught or lodged between a set of dual tires that may be dislodged and become a projectile.\" |
