| Summary of Issue | In March of 2011 it was discovered that SafetyNet can not recieve Safety Audit information generated by SENTRI. Prior to this time when CAPRI was being used to generate safety audits all of the data was available. Based upon this functionality, a comprehensive field information database system was written by the state. Now major elements of the system are not functioning correctly because under SENTRI this data is no longer available to SafetyNet |
| Justification or Need | The state of Ohio utilizes a custom database system to track staff performance, generate time sheets, assign work, and generate billing information. A key facet of this system is the ability to extract data from SafetyNet to facilitate many of these tasks. Since a major element of the system revolves around new entrants, being able to download data regarding safety audits is essential to the success of the system. Without such information, the state has had to develop multiple work arounds that often involve hand keying information into the system as well as extracting data from other sources. |
| Request for Action | FMCSA needs to fix the communications problem to ensure that safety audit information that is uploaded to MCMIS using SENTRI can continue to be used by states in SafetyNet. If FMCSA will no longer support the ability to do so using SafetyNet, another means by which states can automatically recieve such information must be developed, otherwise state specific systems such as that used by Ohio will be rendered useless causing wasted time and money. |
