| Summary of Issue | We are seeking guidance/approval for the location of an interior DriveCam unit in a Class 8 CMV. |
| Justification or Need | These devices add huge value to safety and driver training. |
| Request for Action | We are asking that some general guidance be issued regarding mounting of this camera on the passenger side windshield in a position that doesn't impair the drivers ability to see the right front area of the cab, cab mounted mirrors, etc. We have mounted a device as evidenced in the attached photos. Please keep in mind that the device must be mounted in a place where the windshield is cleaned by a wiper AND a place that the driver can't defeat the interior camera by lowering the sunvisor. The device can also not be placed directly to the right of the center windshield column as the video to the left is blocked by the column. Would 393.60 or 393.3 apply or are there other considerations or clarifications. |
