| Summary of Issue | The frame and body are the foundation of the vehicle. Integral components of the vehicle are mounted on the frame. It is very important that the frame is in good shape to hold these components and carry the load. Basic frame components include the flange, the web, and the radius. |
| Justification or Need | Proper identification and documentation of frame rail cracks by roadside inspectors is a concern. |
| Request for Action | A line drawing outlining the "Flange", "Web" and "Radius" features of a frame rail needs to be added to Part II, Item 4. "Frame" a. "Frame Members" of the North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria (OOSC). The line drawing can be found in the NASI Part "B" course under Step 19. |
