FMCSA Requests Comments on “Inspection, Repair and Maintenance” ICR
On Sept. 25, FMCSA requested (PDF) (opens in a new tab) comments on its “Inspection, Repair and Maintenance” information collection request (ICR). The ICR relates to recordkeeping for the inspection, repair and maintenance of CMVs. Comments are due by Nov. 24.

PHMSA Publishes Updates on Special Permits
On Sept. 25, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) published updates on special permit applications:

• List of Applications for Special Permits (PDF) (opens in a new tab) – Comments are due by Oct. 25.
• List of Applications for Modification of Special Permits (PDF) (opens in a new tab) – Comments are due by Oct 10.
• Notice of Actions on Special Permit Applications (PDF) (opens in a new tab) – Comments are due by Oct 25.

PHMSA Extends Comment Period on “Hazardous Materials: Modernizing Regulations to Improve Safety and Efficiency” ANPRM
On Sept. 21, PHMSA extended (PDF) (opens in a new tab) the comment period on its July 5 (PDF) (opens in a new tab) advanced notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) on “Hazardous Materials: Modernizing Regulations to Improve Safety and Efficiency.” The ANPRM asks about initiatives that may modernize the Hazardous Materials Regulations and improve efficiencies while maintaining or improving a current high level of safety. Comments are now due by Dec. 1.

CVSA maintains a list of active exemptions (opens in a new tab) issued by FMCSA. The exemption tracker can be found at cvsa.org under the “Inspections” tab at the top of the page.

FMCSA Reinstates KSK ELD to List of Registered ELDs
On Sept. 18, FMCSA reinstated (opens in a new tab) KSK ELD to the list of registered electronic logging devices (ELDs). Motor carriers and drivers may now use KSK ELD to record and transfer hours-of-service data.
